Math Club

  • Math Club meets every Friday after school in Ms. Daniels’s room (room 203) from the end of school day until 3:30. There is no cost associated with the club and it is open to students in grades 5-8. Students just need to be sure that their parents know they are staying for math club and be sure that they have a ride home at 3:30.

During math club, students work to solve problems and puzzles varying in difficulty. They often work in groups to help lower grade students master more difficult topics. The problems do not follow any grade-level curriculum, but focus on problems that require a different type of out-of-the-box thinking as well as the use of logic. We occasionally have in-house competitions where students can compete against their classmates or work with them to try to beat other grades of students.

Math Club students decide upon school-wide activities to celebrate Pi Day. Last year, they decided on a questionnaire that all students could complete for prizes as well as creating a script for a NMS news presentation on pi.

Students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to tryout to be a part of the MATHCOUNTS Competition team. These students attend one meet in February, competing individually and as a group against other schools in the area.
