The North Middlesex Regional School District Buildings and Grounds department provides support to seven school buildings, a maintenance garage and all related grounds in the towns of Ashby, Pepperell and Townsend. The department is comprised of 32.5 employees including the Director, his office assistant, 7 Maintenance personnel, 7 Day Leads, and 18.5 custodians. These employees offer a wide range of skills, experience and knowledge including carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, grounds/snow removal and cleaning. The department is divided into several divisions with the common goal to serve and support the teaching staff and students. The Buildings and Grounds department participates in bulk purchasing of green line cleaning products to improve safety and air quality and as well as ensure cost savings. The department maintains and follows AHERA state standards, pest management strategies, air and water quality monitoring and testing, and complies with the guidelines of LEED certification.

All schools, under the direction of Dave Amari, are managed by a Day Lead who oversees their custodial team and collaborates with the Maintenance personnel to maintain the upkeep of the building. In addition to their daily responsibilities, and to support the Technology Department, the Maintenance personnel install devices, wiring and addresses any electrical needs.

All Buildings and Grounds staff members make safety and security their top priority. Both during and after school hours, they assist in responding to all incidents involving alarms or emergency situations.

Finally, the department employs three crossing guards in Pepperell and Townsend.

Dave Amari, Director of Buildings & Grounds

Dave has been working for North Middlesex Regional School District since 2010, where he brings hands-on experience-based leadership. His North Middlesex career started as Day Lead at Varnum Brook Elementary School before progressing to District Mechanic, District Maintenance, District Maintenance Foreman, Assistant Facilities Director, then ultimately, Director of Buildings and Grounds. Dave has become an invaluable resource for our school district over the years, maintaining our educational spaces, building mechanics, HVAC control systems, grounds, athletic fields and turf complex.

Dave served on the Building Committee for the MSBA High School Building Project and was involved in several State accelerated repair projects and grants for Varnum Brook Elementary and Hawthorne Brook Middle Schools. His attention to detail and understanding of regulatory standards for OSHA, AHERA, ADA and other emergency safety compliances and protocols will help ensure that NMRSD continues to be a safe and clean learning environment.

Fostering ownership and teamwork in a positive working environment through strong communication, collaboration and dedication are values Dave is committed to. Protecting and preserving our community assets where our children learn and grow is an endeavor he takes great pride in. Dave is a graduate of North Middlesex, husband and father of three. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring the great outdoors, and giving free fishing clinics to anyone who is interested.

Andrea Royer, Buildings & Grounds Secretary

Andrea Royer

Andrea Royer joined the North Middlesex Regional School District in 2014 to provide administrative support in the Buildings & Grounds department.  Working alongside the Director, she assists in efficiently managing day to day operations.

In addition to her secretarial duties, she serves as one of the District's CJIS authorized users.

Andrea received her A.S. degree in Business Administration from Middlesex Community College.
