Anime Club
Advisor: Rob Fletcher
Anime is Japanese hand-drawn or computer animation, Anime refers specifically to animation from Japan or as a Japanese-disseminated animation style often characterized by colorful graphics, vibrant characters, and fantastical themes The Anime Club meets on Thursdays after school from 2:10 pm until 3:30 pm. We meet to watch movies and socialize. There is no charge to be a member and all are welcome.

Best Buddies
Advisors: Gaye Smith, Dawn Chappell
The North Middlesex chapter of Best Buddies is a club focused on developing a group of friends to spend time with. Some of these friends will be NM students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Best Buddies hosts twice-monthly social events in school and outside of school. We welcome all students to join us for fun and friendship!
Best Buddies International is a non-profit organization with over 2500 school chapters in the US and 50 countries around the world. In addition to school-based social inclusion, Best Buddies International creates opportunities for rewarding careers, independent living, leadership roles, and lifelong friendships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We hope some of those lifelong friendships will start right here at NM!

Color/Rifle Guard
Advisors: Brian Beton, Greg Harris
Color Guard is a dance oriented ensemble designed to continue the development of skills used during marching band. Winter guard is open to any student and rehearses November through March from 5-8:00 on Thursdays.

Community Garden
Advisor: Eileen Fredrickson
The Community Garden is a student-run organization dedicated to helping the local community by providing fresh organic produce. The club is open to all students who would like to participate and is led by a student contingent of 4 to 6 coordinators. The garden meets in the main courtyard throughout the growing season to seed, maintain and harvest the garden. The students make new friends, learn about gardening and food insecurity while having a tremendous amount of fun.

Diversity Club

Diversity Club is a group that provides a safe place for all students and helps initiate and implement change in our school.

Drama

The NM Players present two productions per year: one drama and one comedy. All are welcome!

Giving Tree
Advisor: Chelsea Carpenter
The Giving Tree Program is a community service group designed for all grades. The group has a goal to fundraise money throughout the year in order to purchase gifts, winter clothing, and food for low-income families during the holiday season. The group sets up two trees in the school during early November with tags of gifts needed and then tracks the gifts as they are donated. In early December they host an open event where they sort all the donated gifts and then use the fundraised money to purchase any missing gifts.

International Club
Advisors: Sharon Logiudice, Clare Cooper
The International Club meets monthly throughout the school year. It is designed to enrich the World Languages curriculum by promoting global understanding and appreciation of other cultures through participation in a variety of cultural activities. Among the activities that take place each year are celebration of holidays, arts and crafts workshops, viewing of foreign films and preparing and eating foreign foods. The group’s four officers are elected in the fall of each year.

Jazz Ensemble
Advisor: Greg Harris
Jazz Band is an advanced, extra-curricular ensemble for students interested in performing jazz. Emphasis will be on the preparation and performance of grade IV-VI jazz literature. Students will hone individual playing techniques as well as develop ensemble skills throughout the course of the year. Rehearsals will run after school on a weekly basis beginning in December. Although it is not required, private study is highly recommended for students enrolled in this course. Students are required to perform in all band concerts at the high school. Participation in either Wind Symphony or Concert Band is required for participation in Jazz Band.

Marching Band
Advisor: Greg Harris
Marching Band is a large ensemble that rehearses once a week in the summer and then 2 nights a week in the fall in addition to performing at all home football games and competing at Marching Band Festivals. Please note that Marching Band is a voluntary ensemble, but that students must be enrolled in either Concert Band or Wind Symphony to join Marching Band. Students receive 2.5 credits for this activity and it will appear on your transcript.

Model United Nations Club
Advisor: Kathy Penney
The Model United Nations Club participates in at least two Model UN conferences each school year. Members are assigned as a diplomat to a specific UN council. Each member then researches from an assigned country's perspective, writes a position paper and prepares to debate. Skills gained are confidence, public speaking, diplomacy, research skills and how to effectively compromise. The Model UN is also a great resume builder for college and careers and members can continue with this club in college!

National Art Honor Society
Advisors: Anissa Plante, Vicki Domings
The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is an organization based on art scholarship, character, and service that strives to recognize and inspire students who have demonstrated excellence and interest in the visual arts. NAHS members participate in a variety of art experiences including original art based fundraisers, community exhibitions, and charitable events. NAHS members are advocates for the visual arts, both in the school and the community.

National Honor Society
Advisors: Loren Messina
The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. NHS students volunteer in their communities at the highest rates and make connecting with and serving within the community a priority.

New Orleans Service Learning
Advisors: Andrew Sturm and Margaret Genoter
NOLA Service Learning is a program designed for sophomores, juniors and seniors that involves many different community service activities, fundraising events, and a 7-10 day trip to New Orleans. The program kicks off in June before the school year ends. The time spent before the trip involves planning fundraisers and doing local community service projects such as volunteering in soup kitchens and homeless shelters. When the group travels to New Orleans, the main focus is to help with the recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina and other storms that ravaged the city and the surrounding area. Being part of the group and completing all required community service hours will qualify you for 2.5 credits.

New York Service Learning
Advisors: Kelly Bettencourt and Gerin Murphy
The New York Service Learning group provides students with an opportunity to become active participants in their local communities through thoughtfully organized community service. Students at NMRHS plan, organize, and host events ranging from their annual middle school dance, to fashion shows at local retirement homes, and evenings at nearby soup kitchens. Their yearly service culminates in a trip to New York to both celebrate their accomplishments and to further extend their assistance to those in New York City.

NM Mathematics Team
Advisor: Ed Logiudice
The NM Math Team is an academic team that competes in the Massachusetts Mathematics League. On the first Thursday of each month, the team travels to various high schools and competes against the other high schools in their division. Each competition is spilt into 6 individual rounds, during which each team member has to solve 3 tricky math problems in a 10-minute time period, and a team round, during which the entire team has to solve 6 tricky math problems in a 15-minute time period. Practices are held once a week. Typically, students in grades 10, 11, and 12 take part in the competitions. Freshmen are encouraged to join and be a part of the team as well. Only 10 students are allowed to take part in each competition, but any student can attend the meet and take part in the competition as an an alternate. NM Students for Animals
Advisor: Vicki Domings
The NM Students for Animals Club is open to all students who have a passion for helping animals. Our mission is to raise money and hold supply drives for local animal shelters, raise awareness regarding pet safety issues, and help share information about the animals that are lost and found in Townsend, Ashby, and Pepperell.

NM Writing Club
Advisor: Dawn Chappell
The NM Writing Club is a warm and welcoming community of writers. We read, write, share work, provide feedback, and help each other grow as writers. Club members are encouraged but not required to publish their work in the NM literary magazine. The Writing Club meets on two Wednesdays each month. New members are invited to join at any time.

PRIDE (formerly Gay-Straight Alliance)
Advisor: Amy Manchester
The PRIDE club brings together LGBTQI+ and straight students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize, and create a platform to fight for racial, gender, LGBTQ, and economic justice.

Relay for Life
Advisor: Kelly Bettencourt
The Relay for Life Committee is a group of students dedicated to supporting, planning, and fundraising for the Relay for Life event that occurs in our community at North Middlesex Regional High School. Students who join relay for life care about funding cancer research, celebrating survivors, and remembering those who lost their battle to cancer. The committee is split into subcommittees, each specialized to planning certain events, finding and supporting survivors, social media and publicity, and more.

Robotics Team
Advisor: Jim Landry
The robotics team is made up of students who wish to expand their robotics knowledge beyond that in class. The team annually competes in VEX Robotics competitions throughout New England. The Robotics Team is open to all grade levels, regardless if you have taken the robotics class.

The School Store offers a selection of NM clothing, hats, water bottles as well as many other items.

Student Council & Class Officers
Advisors: Kim Jamieson, Andrew Sturm
Each class elects a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer to serve as a communication link between the student body, student government, and administration, and also to organize class activities. It is the responsibility of the officers to address the needs of the class and inform them of Student Council activities.
Elections of class officers will be held in May/June for the rising Senior, Junior and Sophomore classes, as well as for the Student and Regional Student Advisory Councils. In September, the slate of student officers will be completed when elections for the freshman officers are held.

Student-Staff Book Club

The NM Book club is open to all students and staff. The group meets
every 4-6 weeks to discuss the latest book selection, laugh, eat some
good food and choose our next read. Anyone is welcome to join. -
Tri-M Music Honor Society
Advisor: Greg Harris
The Tri-M Music Honor Society® is a program of NAfME which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy. Tri-M® is the only national honor society for student musicians in grades 6-12. There are more than 1,800 chapters across all 50 states, involving more than 75,000 students. Each year, these students contribute more than 750,000 service hours to their schools and local communities, and raise nearly $1 million for causes they care about.

Yearbook

North Middlesex Yearbook club is a great opportunity to help create
the school yearbook. There are opportunities to use your photography and design skills with experienced club advisors and students. Meetings occur after school and are weekly throughout the year.If you wish to join, please see either Ms. Wiechers (Room 262) or

Young Women's Empowerment Group
Advisor: Amy Manchester
The Young Women's Empowerment Group is an all-inclusive club to empower all genders, sexual identities, and cultural identities to discover intersectional feminism and support one another. Members need an open mind to discuss social justice issues faced in everyday life, as well as current events dealing with sexuality, race, and gender. Y.W.E.G. is an activist group aiming to discover and change the current environment in our school and society. Our monthly meetings are open to EVERYONE who wants to discuss feminism, social justice, and related issues.
