VBES New Principal WelcomePosted by Tara Hanley on 7/22/2022
Hello Varnum Brook ES Students and Families,
My name is David S. Hill and I’m very excited to be the new Principal of Varnum Brook Elementary School. While it was difficult to leave the Dracut Public Schools after eighteen years as an elementary Principal at the Greenmont Avenue School and then as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, I feel a renewed excitement to be at the building level again with students, staff and families at the Varnum Brook Elementary within the North Middlesex Regional School District.
Thank you to our Superintendent Morgan for the very gracious initial introduction and to everyone at Central Office who has made me feel so welcome. Thanks to Principal Hanley and Assistant Principal Jarvis for dedicating the time to getting me up to speed and taking me on my first tour of this uniquely designed former open-concept middle school. I also had the chance to meet Secretary White and our custodial staff and begin learning all the finer nuts and bolts that make the VB a special community of learners.
A few details about myself. I am originally from the west coast, having grown up in Los Angeles with three sisters. My parents are both lifelong educators now retired. My mother was a bilingual pre-k / kindergarten teacher and my father was a school psychologist who, along with two colleagues, decided to create their own school for students with significant social and emotional trauma. He was the Director of Parkhill School for over thirty-five years. This was where I first got my feet wet as a teachers' assistant and quickly learned the value of building relationships.
In terms of my educational journey, I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from University of California at Santa Barbara and a masters' degree in School Leadership from California State University at Los Angeles. I have obtained numerous certificates of licensure, including Principal K-8 and Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, and am currently researching opportunities for obtaining my doctorate in educational leadership in the near future.
Lastly, and most importantly, my wife Bonnie and I are the proud parents of four wonderfully caring and compassionate children; Jake / 24, Emma / 22, Juliana / 19 and Luke / 13. And our most recent additions to the family include our canine companions, Koa and LuLu. We love spending time together with family and friends, going to the beach and staying active in sports. Don’t ask me about my golf handicap!
Looking forward to meeting all students and families both present and new and beginning the journey within Varnum Brook ES and NMRSD!
