As we shared with you in the spring, students will have a unique opportunity to spend three days at the Leadership School through Kieve Wavus Education in Jefferson, Maine this fall. The program takes an experiential approach to social-emotional learning. Based on the five CASEL competencies- self management, self awareness, relationship skills, social awareness, and responsible decision-making- every student will engage and learn through activities that build skills which go far beyond the traditional content explored in their classrooms.

Kieve Wavus provides three hot meals and snacks each day, and their classes provide opportunities for students and teachers to strengthen communication skills, build healthy relationships, practice positive risk taking, raise aspirations, and create physically and emotionally safer school climates. The program is led by enthusiastic, well trained instructors. NMS staff will also attend and facilitate activities.  

This fall’s trip is scheduled to take place November 13-15 for NMS students and November 15-17 for HBMS students.

The total cost of the trip, which includes tuition, room and board, and bus transportation is $265.00. You can be assured that every effort is being made to keep costs to an absolute minimum. In order to secure this rate, a deposit of $132.50 (cash or checks made out to Nissitissit or Hawthorne Brook Middle School) must be made by September 1. The balance of $132.50 will be due by October 2. Families are also welcome to pay in full anytime before October 2. Should this pose a financial hardship, please reach out to your child’s school administrator.
